What is Bushcraft Camping & How to do it in an Effective Way

Beyond a point, everything eventually loses to give you excitement, and it is defined in economics—the law of diminishing marginal utility. camping is one such thing. Going on a camping trip even twice a year could leave you high and dry on adventure after a couple of years. After a point, you just don’t get the adrenaline rush you used to get on your early camping trips.
For all those you are feeling the same, there is one thing that could give you the adrenaline rush back and even higher than ever is bushcraft camping. What is bushcraft camping? For those, you have heard of but never tried and for those who haven’t heard, Bushcraft camping is a camping trip minus everything you carry along. It could be said in some senses that it is exactly opposite of Glamping.
 Bushcraft Camping
Just like Michael Grylls a.k.a. Bear Grylls, (obviously not all that snake eating and squirrel hunting) but surviving on the minimal resource on a camping trip. Well, all you need to make sure is, you don’t get too far with it.
Bushcraft camping requires skills and the more tangible things it needs are—tools and survival shelters.
Here are very essential bushcraft tools which are a must for camping in the minimum.

Knife

A knife is a very important tool for bushcraft camping as it is a multi-tasking tool which can cut, shell and sharpen. What you should see in a knife which should qualify for a good bushcraft knife are, made of quality steel, should be sharp, functional and durable.

Axe

Another must-have tool is an axe. Bigger than a knife, an axe has similar function but for tasks with a much higher magnitude. The main utility of an axe is chopping firewood, although there can be a couple of secondary uses also like clearing an area of the bushes.

Water Filter

One of the most important elements for survival is water and on a camping trip which requires minimum things, you can’t afford to carry along a huge canister of water. Here comes the camping water filter. It is light to carry and gives you pure water anywhere, anytime you need.

Nylon Rope

A nylon rope is also a multi-utility thing to carry on a camping trip, especially when you are on an adventure like bushcraft camping.

Plastic sheet

A plastic sheet has an exclusive use on a bushcraft camping trip and it is, it serves as a plastic roof on the tent you make.
Another aspect of bushcraft camping is building survival shelters out of resource which is available to you. Here are the steps to build a survival shelter on a bushcraft camping trip.
All you need is:
Frame- The first thing that you need to make before building a shelter is—a frame. A frame is slightly above the ground as sleeping on the cold ground could be really bad. You need to make a frame by using 4 wooden logs with 2 logs placed (securing the 4 corners by tying a jam knot with nylon rope) such that the frame gets off the ground. There can 2 frames piled up to give a better height to the overall structure.
Base- A base is like a bed (platform) which can be made by using saplings that are to be laid lengthwise. Next comes the mattress. To make the bed fluffy, pile up the boughs on the saplings base you have made. The bough would serve as a mattress and provide your back with required cushioning.
Dome- Now it is time for the overhead shelter. A dome structure would be required to be built for overhead shelter. To build it, longer saplings at least with a length of 8 feet would be required, as long saplings are flexible and bend to take shape. Bend the saplings on both the ends of the bed to form a wigwam roof.
Roof- Cover the dome with the plastic sheet, all you need to make sure is securing the plastic. If the plastic is not secured, a strong wind or a heavy downpour would wash it away. There you are, with your handmade shelter that would save you from the elements and that you could call your home on a bushcraft camping.
